Forrest Gump 10
In your opinion, what is the best camera suited to taking action shots? I'm thinking of getting a new camera and will mainly be using it to take action shot of the dogs. Doesn't really matter about prices at the moment just looking for people's opinions . lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I have a nikon d300, does 6 frames per second but it battery grip is used with the correct battery it will put it up to 8fps. A good lens is important to get enough light in to focus fast enough for action shots. Just learning about them myself, gets interesting the more you get into it. paulus 26
a fast shutter speed will stop the action without blurring however the faster the shutter speed and longer the lense is the less light there will be so the iso will need to be adjusted dependent on the natural light available , best to try to get the fastest shutter speed you can get for the lense your using in normal daylight and stick with that. welcome to club fuzzy
Kay 3,709
The quality of the lens has a lot to do with it as does light ,i know the prime lens i have which is 50mm is like shit of a shovel . but its a bugger to focus so i miss more shots than i take having said that i did manage to get housemartins in flight with a 55 / 250 lens at 3 frames a second....

Forrest Gump 10
Thanks for the replies guys so a good quality lense is more important than the quality of the camera itself when it comes to the action? (although both are obviously important) Didn't think this would be so complicated yet i find myself more and more interested the more i learn lol

Romany 1,065
Frames per second is an important feature for consistent action shots.. Running dogs are fairly easy to capture.. Edited December 10, 2012 by Romany
